General Information

The aim of the qualification is to further develop the introductory bookkeeping practices and processes studied at Level 1. The course is designed to teach students to develop practical accountancy skills in the double-entry bookkeeping system and in using associated documents and processes. Students will cover transactions for accuracy, make entries in appropriate books and ledgers and calculate sales invoices and credit notes

The course is structured around 2 units

1: Introduction to Bookkeeping

,

This unit provides students with an understanding of manual and digital bookkeeping systems. Students will learn the basic principles of the double-entry bookkeeping system.

Understand how to set up bookkeeping systems

Process customer transactions

,

Process receipts and payments

,

Process transactions into the ledger accounts

,

2: Principles of Bookkeeping Controls

,

This unit will provide students with the knowledge and skills to explore control accounts, journals and reconciliations. Students will develop the ability to prepare the value added tax (VAT) control accounts as well as the receivables and payable ledger accounts.

Reconcile a bank statement with the cash book

Produce trial balances

This is a fast paced course, with classes twice a week.

The final exam is computer-based. Students will receive learning support and computer practice prior to the final exam.

All students must pay a one-off registration fee which is approximately £65.00. Please contact AAT directly for the current price that they charge as this is subject to change. This fee is paid to AAT directly by the student and not to Sutton College. Your tutor will give you information about registering on the first day of the course.

What level is this course & what skills do I need?

This course is Level 2.

1: You will need to have appropriate levels of English and Maths skills in order to produce assignments necessary for this course. 

,

You must have achieved an English Language Level 1 and Maths Entry 3 Level qualification or above. You will be asked to provide your certificates during the Course Approval Assessment.

,

You will also be asked to do an online English Language and Maths test for the Course Approval Assessment to assess that you have the appropriate level of English and Maths in order to be accepted onto the course.

2: Bookkeeping Level 1 Award AAT

3: You must also be competent in the use of ICT in order to complete unit assignments and access course information provided online.

Courses at Level 2 or below may be free if you are in work, live in a London Borough and earn under £25,642.50 or are in receipt of a means tested benefit and looking for work. For further information please contact enrol@suttoncollege.ac.uk

Learners on Government funded courses must attend a minimum of 90% or may be withdrawn. Learners must also have the intention of taking the exam/assessment prescribed to their course. Withdrawal from a course and/or failure to take exams or submit assessments means you will be required to pay the full course cost.
