General Information

On this course learners will gain an understanding of how to develop & utilise the elements of art in order to create exciting & experimental art work via the application of mixed media materials. In turn learners will then naturally engage with developing the principles of design into their creative art work & develop the skills required to analyse the theoretical components of their designs. Contemporary & traditional art history will be referenced in the learning process.

What will I learn on this course?

This course will help learners to develop accurate observational drawing skills & enable flair & confidence to build in the manipulation of media of their choice. 

This will further fuel the creative development of their piece with the introduction of colour, line, texture, space, with learners becoming more adept in recognizing the core components that define their work. 

Projects will be set which although will require the progressive development of base drawing skills & use of media, they will however be taught & promoted in such a way in order for you to have the creative freedom to discover your own individual creative personality & preferences. 

All media will be investigated from drawing media, pencils, chalks & oil pastels to paint types, watercolour, acrylics along with a range of papers & drawing surfaces.

A collaborative approach will be very much encouraged with an emphasis on peer interaction in regards to an integral source of critique, learning & inspiration, whilst respecting those learners that may prefer to be more autonomous in their study.

Do I need any skills for this course?

This course is suitable for all creative ranges from beginners to those with more experience. The course is designed to both learn fundamental creative skills whilst practising & experimenting within this. You will be encouraged to discover your own individual niche & flair exploring this with the creative freedom that mixed media will naturally facilitate. An open & relaxed supportive learning environment will further enable creative development & personal progression of your individual creative journey.

Additional information

For your first lesson please bring HB, 2B pencils, charcoal, A3/A2 cartridge paper, Putty rubber, Masking tape & blending stumps.

As you progress with the course, student and tutor can discuss other materials such as types of paint, surfaces and mediums, which can be obtained for your personal development.
