Explore the potential of drawing & painting media. Try a range of techniques and approaches with an emphasis on developing new skills to unlock your creativity. The Course is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. If you are somebody who visits galleries and would enjoy discovering more about some of the ideas and techniques of artists this course includes some art appreciation with reference to historical, modern and contemporary artists.

What will I learn on this course?

,

The course will help you to learn and develop a range of different skills and techniques in drawing and painting by looking at the formal elements including line, tone, composition, and colour theory. You will explore a variety of drawing and painting media including oils & acrylics, working from both primary (observation) and secondary (photo) resources, with still life, landscape, figure/portrait subjects and on themed projects, through structured exercises and more personalised projects as you gain confidence in your own creativity and self expression.

You will be introduced to new ways of seeing, thinking and working and encouraged to develop your individual creativity and approach to making work.

Do I need any skills for this course?

This flexible and enjoyable course is open to everyone - whether you are a beginner keen to explore or have some experience and wish to develop your drawing and painting skills further.

For your first session, please bring; 2B & 4B pencils, willow charcoal, plastic eraser & putty rubber A3 drawing cartridge paper/pad, Masking tape, Pen for notes. Further/optional - drawing pencils, compressed charcoal, charcoal pencils.

Extra costs: You will need to supply your own materials on this course:

Basics - Drawing pencils (graphite), plastic eraser, Willow Charcoal, putty rubber, Drawing Cartridge paper A3 & A2 size, Masking Tape. Acrylic paints, brushes, palette, canvas/canvas board.

Additional – Oil painting materials, chalk and/or oil pastels, pen & ink – some of which can be borrowed/shared or supplied on a pay for what you use basis. – There will be a full list of tools & materials for the course which your tutor will discuss with you
