 Essential Digital Skills Entry 3

Are you finding it difficult to keep up in this increasingly digital world? Don't get left behind!

Take a step towards developing your digital skills to help you with work and at home, whether it's using emails and searching for information or learning how to shop or make appointments online.

What will I learn on this course?

This course will develop your digital skills for life and introduce you to digital skills for work.

On this course, you will cover:

• Using devices and handling information

Know what is meant by hardware, software, operating systems and applications

Finding information

Storing and managing information

Solving simple technical problems

• Creating and Editing

Use a suitable application to enter, edit and format information

Capture and save images, sound and video.

• Communicating

Create, edit and use contacts when sending and receiving online communications

Identify the types of digital activities that leave a ‘digital footprint’

• Transacting (Buying things online)

Complete and submit a form as part of an online transaction

Buy an item/service online using a chosen method of online payment.

• Being safe and responsible online

Identify situations where personal information may be stored by devices and online

Be aware of online risks and threats

Configure and use secure ways to access devices and online services.

Know how to report concerns with online content.

Recognise and minimise the effects of physical stresses of being online

What level is this course & what skills do I need ?

This course is aimed at people who have limited IT experience. However, to access the course you should be able to do the following:

• Turn on a computer
• Know how to use the mouse, keyboard or a touchscreen
• Able to open an application e.g. Google from the home screen
• How to sign on to the internet safely

How do I enrol?

To be considered for a place on this course, you are required to complete an online course Assessment to ensure this course is suitable for you.

You can make an application by clicking on ‘APPLY’ at the bottom of this page. If you do not already have a Sutton College online account you will need to create one first. On completion of your application you will receive further information via email.

Courses at Level 2 or below may be free if you are in work, live in a London Borough and earn under £25,642.50 or are in receipt of a means tested benefit and looking for work. For further information please contact enrol@suttoncollege.ac.uk

Additional information

There is an expectation that you will complete 1.5 to 2 hours of home study a week.

You will need access to a PC/laptop and connection to the internet. If you do not have access to a PC or laptop, Sutton College may be able to provide one depending on your personal circumstances.

What are the progression opportunities at the end of this course?

When completed you can progress to the Essential Digital Skills Level 1.
