General Information

,

Using the history of painting as a reference you will examine the techniques and methods of different artists from the traditional to the modern in order to apply to your own work. Artists we have looked at on the course include Diego Velázquez, Paul Cézanne, Piet Mondrian, John Singer Sargent among many others. We look at artists primarily for their painting technique rather than the subject matter (i.e. portrait or landscape). Even though the course is for oil painting, learners who use acrylic or water-based oil painting can be supported as well.

,

What will I learn on this course?

,

The course is a guide through different approaches to painting from the quick wet into wet style of the Impressionists such as Édouard Manet to the slower and more gradual layer-upon-layer method of the Dutch painters such as Peter Paul Rubens. It is hoped that by exploring these methods you can take what you need to develop your painting. The course follows a structured approach that will help you get through each step and includes demonstrations in the studio, one to one tuition as well as class feedback.

,

Do I need any skills for this course?

,

This course is suitable for learners of all levels; learners who are beginners and need help getting started as well as more advanced learners who want to be challenged further.
