Discover the difference the Pilates system of exercise can make to your life. Pilates is a form of body conditioning that focuses on building muscle tone and strength from the core of the body. You will learn a series of controlled exercises and breathing patterns that will help you develop your core control, tone muscles and improve mobility, strength and posture.

What will I learn on this course?

,

The Pilates system of exercising will help you to develop and maintain whole body flexibility, muscle tone, strength, endurance, balance and coordination. You will learn to perform a sequence of safe and effective exercises with a slow controlled approach while maintaining the correct postural alignment, breathing technique and core control during performance. The course also aims to promote the health benefits of long-term adherence to an active lifestyle. Through regular participation in exercise at a level suited to the individual and their distinctive needs, aspirations and goals. You will also develop your knowledge of the body and how it works, developing an understanding of the importance of keeping active.

Do I need any skills for this course?

,

This course is suitable for all abilities. It will include a mix of students with a variety of experience from physically capable students new to the subject to students who have completed the course before and are happy to work at this level.

If you are a complete beginner or have physical limitations that might affect your exercise performance, please speak to your tutor.

**You will need to bring your own exercise mat to class.

,

Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothing suited to exercising e.g. tracksuit etc. A towel and or a small cushion can be brought to class to be used for support when performing certain exercises. Exercises are performed in bare feet but you may wear non-slip socks if you prefer. Optional bottle of water with a secure cap.

Participants are encouraged to work at their own level (which may vary from week to week). It is advised students prepare for safe participation in class by not eating a large meal for at least 2 hours before the class, however you may wish to eat something small before the class to provide you with an energy boost.
