General Information

Zumba Gold® has been specifically designed to take the exciting Latin and international dance rhythms created in the original Zumba® program and bring them to the active older adult, the beginner participant, and other people for whom a high-intensity Zumba class would not be appropriate (e.g. those recovering from an illness/injury.)

Thismodified class has all the fun and passion of Zumba at a lower-intensity and with more focus on balance, coordination and range of movement.

What will I learn on this course?

This group exercise class is intended to be an enjoyable part of an active lifestyle that helps you to stay fit and healthy. Using the energy and expressive qualities of music together with simple choreography to get a group of people moving together, it promotes physical, mental and social well-being. 

You will be encouraged to work at your own level and pace, which may vary from week to week, and to interpret the music and moves in your own individual way.

The course aims to contribute to the maintenance/improvement of your cardiovascular health, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination and cognitive function. You will develop your knowledge of the body and of different dance styles, facilitating greater ability to express yourself through movement.

Do I need any skills for this course?

This course is suitable for all abilities. 

Additional information

Please wear supportive footwear such as dance trainers or cross trainers (but NOT running shoes as they have too much grip), and comfortable clothing suitable for exercising (layers are a good idea as you will get warmer as the class progresses). Ladies may benefit from wearing a sports/supportive bra. You may wish to bring a bottle of water to sip from during the class.

What are the progression opportunities at the end of this course?

Enrol in the next term/year of Zumba Gold or one of the other exercise classes offered at Sutton College.
